Joe Bennett in stitches after leaving half of right knee at White Hart Lane

Paul Lambert is hoping Joe Bennett’s injury is not as severe as first feared after the left-back received stitches in a leg wound. Bennett left the field on a stretcher 11 minutes from time. The former Middlesbrough defender sustained a horrendous-looking gash just below his right knee following a tangle with Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.

Bennett careered off the pitch across the tarmac and ended up in the advertising hoardings. He has the two-week international break to recover, but is still a major doubt for the trip to Fulham a week on Saturday. “He went off to hospital after the game to get some stitches,” confirmed Lambert. “It was a pretty nasty cut. It’s a gash on his right leg. I don’t know if it was a stud or he crashed into the advertising hoarding. I’m not sure what has happened with that.”  [Eh?]
